Draw no bet

Draw no bet (DNB) is a bet on one team to win in which a draw simply returns the stake. You win if your team wins, get your money back on a draw, and lose if it is beaten.

This market takes the draw out of the equation. It sits between a straight win bet (a draw loses) and double chance (a draw wins): here, the draw is neutral. The price is therefore lower than on 1X2 but higher than on double chance.

Its fair probability is calculated by keeping only matches that have a winner: P(win | no draw) = P(1) / (P(1) + P(2)). The fair price is the inverse, (P(1) + P(2)) / P(1). It is also exactly the same as Asian handicap 0 (or 0.0).

It is useful when you think a team is clearly more likely to win than to lose, but a draw remains very plausible — typically a favourite playing away or a tight derby. Bear in mind, though, that a refund is not a win, and a bookmaker’s price includes a margin that puts it below the fair price. The risk of losing your stake is very real.

Example

With a 1X2 of 52% / 26% / 22%, the fair probability of « home, draw no bet » is 52 / (52 + 22) ≈ 70.3%, i.e. fair odds of about 1.42 (74 / 52). On a draw (26% of the time), the stake is simply returned.

How Elofoot uses it

Elofoot does not publish a draw no bet market, but it can be calculated from its 1X2 probabilities: P(1) / (P(1) + P(2)) for the home side, P(2) / (P(1) + P(2)) for the visitors.

Betting involves risks: losing money, debt, addiction. Betting is for adults only. Never stake more than you can afford to lose. Elofoot is a data analysis tool: it takes no bets and no prediction is guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions

What does DNB mean in football betting?
DNB stands for « Draw No Bet »: you back one team to win and your stake is returned if the match ends in a draw.
How do you calculate fair draw no bet odds?
Divide the sum of both teams’ win probabilities by that of the chosen team: (P(1) + P(2)) / P(1). With 52% and 22%, that gives 74 / 52 ≈ 1.42.
How is it different from double chance?
With double chance 1X, a draw wins the bet; with draw no bet, it only returns the stake. Double chance wins more often but pays less.
